Botox® treatments are painless, cost-effective, and minimally invasive “quick fixes” for the telltale signs of premature aging.
Botox® is the refined cosmetic form of Botulinum toxin type A®, a neurotoxin protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In minute doses, this toxin can cure painful muscle spasms in the eye and neck areas, while at the same time producing cosmetically desirable effects. Botox® blocks nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles – thus giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance.

Is Botox® right for you?
Botox® can temporarily reduce or eliminate frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet, and thick bands on the neck. It works by instantly relaxing the targeted facial muscle, smoothing out stubborn wrinkles, creases and unsightly worry lines.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Lanfranchi will discuss your facial lines with you in front of a mirror and determine the role of Botox® in their treatment. Photographs are taken to study your facial muscles when relaxed and when stimulated, since a key element of the examination is assuring that the wrinkles of concern are related to muscle activity.
If applicable, Dr. Lanfranchi may suggest other forms of treatment including fillers, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing or even surgery.

The Procedure
Botox® is injected through the skin, using a very fine needle, into the muscles to be treated. In general, patients experience minimal discomfort, and are ready to leave the clinic soon after the procedure. The treatment is over within minutes, and no recovery time is necessary, so day-to-day activities are neither hampered nor interrupted. Some patients experience light bruising in the treated area, but this can easily be concealed with makeup.
Improvements can be seen within a few days and results may last up to 8 months. The Botox® protein remains in the muscle for about three to four months, at which point it is broken down by the body and excreted.

Side Effects
On the average, there have been very few adverse reactions to Botox® injections. Some reported side effects include temporary eyelid droop and nausea, localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or light bleeding.
