Genital Rejuvenation

Many women are embarrassed to ask their gynecologists about vaginal looseness, enlarged or irregular labia or loss of sexual satisfaction. In turn, most doctors are uncomfortable asking their patients about those same issues. Many women do not even realize there are surgical and medical techniques to solve their problems.

A vaginal rejuvenation is performed surgically to restore or improve the vagina’s cosmetic appearance or function.
Labia reduction & Cosmetic Enhancement: Labiaplasty is a cosmetic genital surgical procedure that will reduce the size or change the shape of the small lips on the outside of the vagina (the labia minora).
Many women are born with large or irregular labia. Others develop this condition after childbirth or with aging. The appearance of the enlarged labia can cause embarrassment with a sexual partner or loss of self esteem. Some women just want to look “prettier” like the women they see in magazines or in films.
Chronic labial irritation can sometimes develop in women who wear tight clothing. Discomfort can occur with sex, sports or other physical activities.
Labiaplasty can greatly enhance the cosmetic appearance of the outer vagina giving many women greater confidence and self esteem. Women whose labia become irritated and painful will often find relief after surgery.

Labia Majora surgery
The labia Majora consist of the outermost tissues of the female genital organs. With age or as a result of effects of pregnancy these areas either become loose or their volume decreases. The surgeries involved in rejuvenation include:
– Lipofilling Fat injections fat is removed by liposuction from one area of the body and injected into the labia majora
– Excision of the skin around the Labia majora.

Common risks of genital surgery:
– Infection- low risk but antibiotics must be taken
– Bleeding very common to have spotting for several weeks after surgery. The tissues in these areas are very friable, swell easily and bleed easily. The bleeding is usually self limited and stops with pressure.
– Wound disruption very common , again because of the type of tissue. Wounds may need to be re-sutured or in some cases left o close on their own secondarily
– No sexual relations for at least six weeks after surgery till healing has occurred.
Correction of physical deformities or changes in the vaginal area is possible and the results gratifying for patients who may have had years of feeling self-conscious about their bodies in this area.
